Go Hard! (Sometimes)

Love my short heading? Hey guys, hope you're all good and crushing it on the mats. Today, let's cut to the chase and talk about why sometimes you've gotta crank up the intensity in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This ain't a game of chess; it's a fighting art.

It's Not Just a Sport

BJJ wasn't invented to score points. It was designed to keep you alive when you find yourself in crappy situations. If you're always rolling like it's a spa day, how are you gonna know how to handle a real threat? Sometimes, you gotta unleash the beast and go hard, if only to remind yourself what you're training for.

The Reality Check

You've heard it before: "Leave your ego at the door." True, but let's be honest, we've all got a bit of an ego, and that's not always a bad thing. Sometimes you've gotta go hard to give yourself, and your partner, a reality check. How good is your game, really? Can you handle pressure or do you fold like deckchair?

Technique Under Pressure

"Technique conquers all," we've all heard that. But guess what? Technique falls apart when you're gasping for air, your forearms feel like cement blocks, and you're fighting off an intense choke. To perfect technique, you need to test it under real world conditions. It's like driving a car; you've gotta sometimes push it to the limit to know what it's capable of. (I know bringing in my other hobby as an example for BJJ :) )

Prepares You for Competition

If you're into competing, then this is a no-brainer. Tournaments aren't a walk in the park. They're intense, aggressive, and chaotic. You won't stand a chance if you haven't experienced what it's like to roll hard. You've gotta be prepped for battle, mentally and physically.

But Keep It Smart

Alright, I'm not saying to go 100% all the time. That's a recipe for injuries and burning bridges with your training partners. Know when to dial it up and when to chill. Keep that respect for your fellow Wavers.

The Takeaway

BJJ is a martial art rooted in real combat scenarios. Rolling hard occasionally does more than just boost your competitive edge; it prepares you for the unpredictable nature of life and combat. It ensures that when you have to go hard, you're not found wanting.

So, next time you hit the mats, don't be afraid to crank it up a notch. Just remember, there's a time and a place. Keep it respectful and let's make each other better and tapping is always an option if things get too hard, it helps with the ego too and also we are here to learn some confrontation and dispute management in a safe environment so speak your mind nicely and always shake hands at the end of class.
